Established in 1979 by the eminent neurosurgeon Dr. B. Ramamurthy and renowned neurochemist Prof. K. Subba Rao, the Society for Neurochemistry, India (SNCI) is a premier professional body dedicated to advancing neurochemistry and neuroscience in the country. Headquartered at the University of Hyderabad, SNCI has grown into a vibrant community of over 750 life members and 11 active local chapters across India. The Society plays a pivotal role in fostering scientific exchange and capacity- building by organizing annual meetings, thematic symposia, workshops, and training schools. These initiatives provide hands-on learning in cutting-edge neurochemical and neurobiological techniques,
inspiring students and early-career researchers to excel in their fields.

SNCI actively promotes collaboration within India and with neighbouring countries including Sri Lanka, Nepal, Bhutan, Bangladesh, and Pakistan, thereby nurturing a strong regional network of neuroscientists. Through competitive awards for best oral and poster presentations, mentorship opportunities, and access to advanced laboratory facilities, the Society continues to encourage innovation and excellence in neurochemistry research.
